Dorene has been telling stories since birth, first for fun and professionally for the last 15 years. Over the span of her 11 year career at MADD, she’s grown from speechwriter for c-suite level executives to her current role as the Acting Vice President of Marketing & Development, where she brings stories to life to raise funds for MADD’s lifesaving mission.
Her proudest accomplishments of MADD include spearheading a digital marketing & public relations campaign against notorious drunk driving offender Ethan Couch, better known as “Affluenza” Teen. The subject of a story in PR Week and highlighted in a nonprofit blog, the campaign garnered 2+ billion media impressions, generated most traffic to website in history of site, added more than 51,000 new emails and produced a 20% increase in volunteer interest and a 52% increase in revenue. In light of these achievements, MADD received honorable mention from PR Daily for Best Advocacy or Awareness campaign in 2016, and Dorene was also nominated for the 2016 American Marketing Association Nonprofit Marketer of the Year.
A sought after presenter, Dorene been invited to speak on webinars and at conferences for the Direct Marketing Association, Nonprofit Pro, and the Chronicle of Philanthropy about a variety of topics, including digital marketing, direct mail and social media. She also was invited to speak at Lifesavers, the nation’s largest traffic safety conference, and at the nation’s largest meeting of Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutors.
Dorene graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Indiana University and a Juris Doctor from Texas A&M School of Law in Fort Worth. A licensed attorney in the state of Texas, she still occasionally practices by taking on pro bono family law cases in her free time to fulfill her passion for child advocacy. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Texans Standing Tall, a nonprofit that works to create healthy communities for children in the state of Texas.
